He is alive!

The resurrection of our Lord Jesus is undoubtedly the greatest event in  history. Where would we be without Jesus’ victory over death? The apostle Paul sums it up like this: “... if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.” (1 Corinthians 15:17-19)

Without Jesus overcoming death there would be no forgiveness, no help from God for today and no hope for tomorrow. I am so glad that the apostle was able to continue by saying: “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead...”

Jesus is alive and if you believe in Him this is what you can rejoice in:

 1. The resurrection of Jesus assures us that God’s word is true

There are prophecies in the Old Testament, that were fulfilled in Jesus, such as the one in Psalm 16:10, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay”.

Jesus referred to His resurrection many times, such as in Matthew 16:21, “From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”

Peter preached the resurrection on the day of Pentecost:

"Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you

by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” (Acts 2:22-24)

The apostle Paul summed it up like this: “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures...”  (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

We believe in the resurrection because it is true!

2. The resurrection of Jesus assures us that His sacrifice for our sins was sufficient

The apostle Peter writes (1 Peter 3:18), that “Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” He continues by saying that Jesus “was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit” and then concludes that this “saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.” The resurrection of Jesus is proof that God accepted the sacrifice of His Son, who offered Himself unblemished to God.

If you believe in Christ, God will remember your sins no more! The price has been paid in full!

3. The resurrection of Jesus assures us that He is with us

Jesus promised that He would be with us always, to the very end of the age and it is because He rose from the dead that He can keep that promise. The apostle Paul makes a great statement that only makes sense because Jesus is alive: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Jesus is alive and is with His people today!

4. The resurrection of Jesus assures us that death is not the end

Jesus Himself proclaimed this while He walked on earth: “For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day." (John 6:40)

Because of the reality of the resurrection, we are able to look forward to being in His presence:

“...because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us

with you in his presence.” (2 Corinthians 4:14)

The truth of the resurrection also comforts us regarding the destiny of the believers who have died: “We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14)

5. The resurrection of Jesus assures us that He will return

When the disciples were still looking up to the sky after Jesus had left them to return to His Father, angel told them:

"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."  (Acts 1:11)

He is alive! Do you believe it?

He is alive! Do you live your life with that in mind?

He is alive! Hallelujah!

Happy Easter!
